The Joint United Nations Programme on Nigeria HIV/AIDS has said that about 58,000 infants are born HIV/AIDS favorable annual in.

The Executive Director of UNAIDS and Under-Secretary General of the United Nations, Michel Sidibe, who's in Nigeria on a three day visit, Federal Republic of Nigeria spoke on Monday night in Abuja during a courtesy call on the Director-General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS, Prof. John Idoko.

Sidibe said there was the need to increase testing and treatment towards winning the war against HIV/AIDS in the country as a measure to a greater number of Nigerians.

He explained, «If there is any one country where I should be today to be able to talk about ending this epidemic, it will be Nigeria, because if we neglect to control the outbreak, it will be fatal. If we don't quicken the pace and reach folks, we might not have the ability to end the epidemic.

»We're in a defining moment, Nigeria has been in a position to attest that effect is potential, that we could find drop on new infections, that we could find decline on how many men who are dying from HIV/AIDS, that we can increase the number of people on treatment.
